At 5 this morning me and Z drove down to Bolton Abbey to photograph and research the ruins for our respective Art A Level projects. He knew a guy who knows a guy so we got in early and had loads of time to chat to estate workers and the Rector before the place became overgrown with families, dogs and coach-loads of old ladies. It’s great down there really early. You can just lie about and watch the river and the sun on the ground without being disturbed.
The staff at the priory church were preparing for a big wedding later in the day so there were flowers being driven in and unloaded. It’s so interesting to see the plants climbing the ruins and think about all the events the walls have seen but still know that it is still a theater for important things in people’s lives.
Also, I’ve gone into domestic mode. Homemaking bread, pasta and biscuits and cleaning without even really thinking about it.
